What is Seitan?

Seitan, often called wheat meat or wheat gluten, is a popular plant-based meat alternative made from the protein in wheat. It is naturally soy-free and is a 'natural' food (not Ultra Processed/store bought) that can easily be made at home. It's been around for over a thousand years, first created by Buddhist monks in China as a vegetarian source of protein. It has a firm texture and can absorb different flavours, making it extremely versatile and work well in everything from stir-fries to sandwiches.

What's inside?

Each kit features only high-quality ingredients and an easy-to-follow recipe. They contain vital wheat gluten, chickpea flour (or organic potato flakes for the shredded chicken seitan), and nutritional yeast. We also include a carefully blended mix of herbs, spices, and seasonings to create a variety of delicious flavours.

Is it easy to make?

Yes (honestly)!

Beef, Chicken, Kebab, and Ham style kits:

  • Make 1 cup of stock and add it to the seitan mix.
  • Knead the mixture for 2 minutes, then let it rest.
  • Wrap the dough in foil.
  • Simmer in a pot for 1 hour.

Lamb style kit:

  • Follow the same steps as above, but add a can of cooked jackfruit into the dough before kneading.

Shredded-Chicken style kit:

  • Follow the same steps, but cook in the oven instead of simmering.
